Christmas 2009

Cameron and Mackenzie have been so sweet getting ready for Christmas. They are excited about what they picked out for each other. Cameron still loves Sonic the Hedgehog. He has worn a Sonic shirt every day for about 3 months when he is not in school. I have tried to be so patient as he is going through this stage. He is so passionate about each of his favorite guys. We went through this when he loved Batman. He is such a good boy that I have decided that is wearing a $5 Sonic shirt everyday makes his heart happy, then I will deal with it. After all, shirley he won't be wearing the same shirt in high school. Sonic isn't hugely popular, so we have had a little trouble finding clothes. We resorted to making shirts by choosing images off the internet and printing them onto transfer paper and ironing them on. He gets so excited when we make new shirts. He zooms everywhere fast like Sonic does. It is sweet how much he loves goofy cartoon characters. I see other kids in sharp clothes and wonder if my handsome boy will ever dress like that again. Cam is doing so well in school. He is writing everything and reading so well. He can sound out any 3 letter word and is learning so many reading rules about bigger words. We are so proud of how he has grown since starting kindergarten.

Mackenzie on the other hand does not own a shirt with a cartoon image on it. I am making sure that I get to dress at least one of my kids how I want to. Mackenzie amazes me every day. She is so smart. She can write her name and "mom", "dad", "Cam". She can read about 15 words. She just scares me with what she knows. I forget that she is only 3. She has always acted so much older than she is. She is also so caring and thoughtful. She loves to do sweet things for people. She is always thinking of her brother and wanting to surprise him with things. She hugs and kisses so much. I can't believe I am so lucky to have a little buddy like her. She has never begged or asked for much. When she sees things at a toy store she will just say, "I'd like to have that for Christmas." Her little friend had a birthday and we bought her a princess castle. She never once asked for it or wanted to open it. She just said, "Could I have one of those for my birthday?' Mackenzie has a best little buddy named Olivia. They are so cute together. They look a lot alike and are so fun together. They are in the same class at school and stick right by each others side. Olivia comes over to play with Mackenzie and they are so funny to listen to. They never stop talking for a second and they say the funniest things. I think they will be good buddies for years to come.

This has been such a fun holiday season with the kids. They named their elf Sam this year. They love getting up in the morning and finding him in his new spot. They have been really good about going to bed with no one in their rooms and staying in their beds all night because Sam is watching and will tell Santa how big they are. Mom and Dad stayed with them while we went out with some friends the other night and Mac primped up while Marmi was in bed with her. She told Marm that she wanted her to lay down with her but that Sam was watching and would tell Santa that she was not a big girl. They are really the best kids. They never hit each and are just so good to each other. If Santa is watching these two are going to have an awesome Christmas.

Pumpkin

Tonight Mackenzie asked Marm why she had two light up pumpkins and we only have one. Marm told her that she could have one of hers if she wanted. Mackenzie said OK and chose the one that the most lights. She picked up the pumpkin and carried it all the way home by herself. What is so funny about the whole pumpkin thing is that she has been eyeing the pumpkin for days. She asks me all the time why they have one more pumpkin than we do. She always says, "I bet Marm would let me have one of her pumpkins." She looks out the window and says "I wish I had two pumkins like Marm does." Tonight was the night she claimed her pumpkin!

Cameron finally talks

Cameron finally opened up a little about school tonight when I was putting him to bed. He told me that one of his friends was teasing him and he didn't like it. I asked him what he was teasing him about and he said, "Abigail keeps blowing me kisses and I am done with that. I do not even want her to blow me any more kisses at all. He said that I fell in love with her." Cameron also said that he is not in love with Abigail at all and he cannot even decide who he is going to marry. He also told me that Abigail likes his hair. It was so sweet to listen to him talk. He told me so much that was on his little mind and thank goodness it was all so minor. The next most serious issue was about another little girl who stuck her tongue out at him and called him a "fart head". I was so proud of him because he said that he did not even tell his teacher at all, he kept it to himself. Last year I'm pretty sure he told his teacher if someone looked at him wrong. It was so nice to get a little glimpse into something about his day.

Mackenzie's First Day of School

Mackenzie was such a big girl today. She constantly amazes me. She is so much more capable than I give her credit for. I think I underestimate her because she is tiny. She is strong and confident and makes me so proud. I could not take my eyes off of her today. I look at her and can't believe she is mine. She loves everything that a mom would hope her little girl would love. She loves princesses and Barbies. She likes pretty dresses and bows in her hair. Tomorrow I drop her off at school by herself for the first time. I can't even imagine that little thing in someone else's care. It breaks my heart to think that she will miss me or need me. Her little friend Olivia is in her class. They played at the park together today and had a blast. Mackenzie was excited about a Dora house that was in her class room. When Cameron got in the car today she told him all about her yellow class room and Olivia being there. She told him about the Dora house and the train track. Listening to them talk to each other is the greatest thing in the world. She was so proud of herself that she could tell him about her classroom. I know she felt so big. I hope that tomorrow her little heart is happy.

First Day of School

I can't believe Cam is in Kindergarten. I have never been so worried about anything as I was about this. I mostly was worried about how I would handle being without him. I knew he could handle it, he is so social and happy, but I also knew how quiet the house would be without him. I have been so angry thinking about how school will have him for more hours a day than I will. I still struggle with this. You have to hope that everything you have given them in their first 5 years is strong enough to withstand all of the other influences they are going to be around.

His first day was awesome. He was great when I dropped him off. He was so sweet and happy. He looked so handsome in his uniform. After his first day he got in the car and said "Mom, I love school!". The next two days have gone just as well. I am so proud of him. I can hardly believe he is so big and confident to go all day on his own and be so well behaved. Mackenzie and I have had a good time together. The first day was pretty hard. I pretty much stayed out of the house so I wouldn't notice how lonely it was without him. When he got home from school that day he was walking through the hallway and Mackenzie went up to him and wrapped both arms around him and just held on. We talk about him and wonder about what he is doing. We have cleaned out the fridge and 2 closets. Mackenzie is so fun to do stuff like that with. She loves to help me and she talks to me the whole time.

Every day gets easier. Knowing that he is happy helps so much. He is extremely exhausted when he gets home. We definately need to work out the kinks in our schedule. He gets home and just wants to play with the neighbors and keep going strong. He is not eating enough in his lunch, today nothing at all. I think after this week he and I both will know more about what to expect. Thanks to everyone who worried and thought about us during this huge transition.

Summer Fun

We have had such a good time this summer. Pretty much every day we get up, have breakfast, clean up the kitchen, practice reading and writing, then head to the pool. The kids love the pool. Cam swims everywhere in the pool. He dives to the bottom and gets his diving sticks, and does summersaults and hand stands. He has been jumping off the diving board with his floaties on but just yesterday he jumped off for the first time without them. Mackenzie swims all over the pool with her life jacket on. She has gotten so brave. She used to stay on the steps unless someone was holding her hands, but now she will go everywhere on her own. They have been good buddies this summer. It has been so fun to have Cam home every morning. It's going to be so hard when fall gets here and we have a schedule again and we can't just be bums all day. Mackenzie can't wait for her birthday party. She is having her second consecutive princess party. I guess there is no reason to change the theme if it's the greatest one ever. She is so sweet and smart. She says when she is 3 she will be big, big, big like Cam. The pressure is on about her party. She is just so endearing when she talks about it that she makes me want to make her the best party ever. If things go as planned the back yard will be so covered in pink you won't be able to see through it.

Wedding

May 7th, 2009

May 7th, 2009

This is what my little boy looked like on the day he turned 5. He was so sweet about being 5 years old. He thinks he is so big now. I am so proud of what a kind little boy he has become. He was so excited to go to school and be the line leader. He took cupcakes with speed racer on them and he got to wear a crown all day. When he got to school he told everyone that the 5 year old was there. Since he turned 5 he wants to do everything on his own and try all kinds of new things. He rode his bike the other day without the training wheels for the first time. He was so proud of himself. He also started doing the monkey bars with no help. When Kendra and I got to school to pick him up the other day, he started screaming from the playground "Mommy, Kendra, I can do the monkey bars all by myself!" He did it over and over. He would yell, "Mommy, make sure Mackenzie and Ethan are wathing!" After school he told everyone who would listen about what he could do. He would say, "I have some good news..." He is so excited to be older and bigger. He did however on the morning of his birthday declare to me that just because he was 5 did not mean that he was going to start wiping his own tail. I can't expect him to completely be a man yet.

Cam's 5th Birthday Party

A Note to My Kids

Cam and Mac,
Sorry, I have taken a couple of months off from the blog. Since I am doing this for you to have someday, I thought I would let you know what you have been up to. Cam, I can't believe you are almost 5. You are so sweet and smart. Your personality and kind heart are unlike anyone I have ever known. When you were little and I would see friends who had 5 year olds I thought their kids seemed so old. If it were up to you, you would be playing all the time. You never go anywhere without a car to drive. The world is your race track. You have such a great imagination. You are always pretending to be a super hero, Speed Racer or Mario. You love to wrestle with Dad. He is always the bad guy depending on which good guy you are. You are so good to your sister. I am so proud of how you take care of her and protect her. When we are away from home you stick by her and keep an eye on her. You don't let anyone say or do anything to hurt her feelings. When she comes to school with Mom to read in the library to your class, you are so proud of her. She sits by you on the rug with the rest of your class and you put your little arm around her shoulder. Sometimes you bend down and kiss her on the top of her head. I can hardly read for staring at the two of you. You have started reading. You can read the first 40 pages of the Dick and Jane book that Marmi got you. You are never thrilled about having to "read your book", but you are awfully proud when you are finished. Mackenzie sits beside you and tries her hardest to distract you and make you laugh. You two can be such screw balls. It takes 10 times longer than it should to get through a couple of pages of your book because of how goofy you two are. When I ask you what a word says, Mackenzie yells "nothing" and you guys laugh until you fall out of your chairs. The more frustrated I get the funnier you seem to think it is. Marmi is pretty pleased to hear about this behavior because she said I had it coming. Evidently Uncle Michael and I knew how to aggrivate Marmi the same way. Cam, your birthday party was this weekend. Everyone was there. You were so great at your party. All of your friends from school were there and you were so excited to have them at your house. You were the perfect little host. You ran and played and were gracious to everyone. Even with all of your buddies from school here, you and Ethan never left eachother's side. It is so neat to see how close you are. When you opened your presents, if you already had something or you got 2 of them you gave the other to Ethan. There was a face painter at your party and she painted Speed Racer on your face. You were so happy, as you always are. I watched you run and play in the back yard. You played on your swingset and bouncy toys. You hugged all of your friends and laughed so much. When it was time for everyone to leave you told them thanks for coming. I am overwhelmed with pride for how you behave. There truly is not a mean bone in your body. You got a really cool bike from Marmi and Gampa that you do dare devil tricks on. You pedal it really fast then stop and it spins you around in a circle. Grandma and Grandpa got you a cool TV for your room. Ethan got you your first real baseball glove, tee, bat and bases. It is the kind of stuff the big kids use. Mommy and Daddy got you a basketball pole for your driveway. I look at you and I can not imagine where time has gone. You are so big that it breaks my heart. You are everything that we could ever hope for in a little boy. We love you.

Mac,
You are my little fire cracker. You are so different than Cam in some ways and so much like him in others. You are so beautiful and loving. It is so amazing that such an itty bitty person like yourself seems to always be running the show. You are so full of spunk. I am so proud of how you stand your ground and don't put up with anyone giving you trouble. I have a feeling you are going to be telling Cam and Ethan how it is for years to come. You are my little buddy. We do everything together. Our favorite things to do together are paint our nails and go to Target. You take walks in your stroller with me. For a 2 year old there is nothing you cannot say. We talk about everything. Your little eyes get so big and round and your voice gets so high when you are talking about something you are excited about. You do this silly little walk where you move your shoulders funny when you are really happy. You are such a fun little person to have around. You wear little dresses and bows all the time. When we are out, you stop traffic. Everyone tells me how pretty you are and I try my hardest to let them know how sweet you are too. You are so good while we are out. You sit in your seat at resturants and you behave perfectly at stores. You have never begged for toys or thrown fits for things. You enjoy just being out and running errands with Mommy. This is how you are a little different than your brother. He has never enjoyed an errand in his life. He asks me every 5 minutes when we are going home. He was also never one to sit still anywhere. You have always just seemed to understand how to behave in public. You still love princesses and Dora. You and Cam play "Dora and Diego" all the time. I will listen to you guys outside your room. You are always playing house as Dora and Diego. You guys make breakfast and watch shows together in your imaginary house. You always make Pop Tarts for your breakfast. Last week I heard Cam ask you what show you wanted to watch and you said, "Little Einsteins." He evidently didn't like that answer because he told you that he hadn't recorded Little Einsteins so you would have to watch something else. I could listen to you guys talk to eachother all day long. You are starting preschool in the fall. You seem OK with the idea. You recognize your school when we drive by. I can't imagine going places without you. I get pretty used to having you on my hip, which is of course your favorite place to be.

I promise not to slack off so much on the blog. I am not much of a computer person and now that the weather is nice we are outside all day long. I love you guys so much.

Easter Egg Hunt

So, what is new with Cam and Mac? They are changing so much every day. They are such good buddies now. They play together in their rooms so peacefully. Cameron is getting big. He looks huge to me. When I hug him he feels so much bigger. It breaks my heart that he hardly seems like a little boy. He says the most amazing things about what he is thinking. He is so smart and kind. He has the best heart. His teacher said he is a good friend to everyone. He is still really into Superman and Batman. His imagination is great. No matter where we are he can play on his own and be so happy. He will take a Batmobile to a resturant and drive it around and talk back and forth between Batman and Robin. He is learning to spell words and he can sound out lots of 3 letter words. He is eager to learn new things. He loves to play Mario Kart on the Wii, and he loves to help his dad play Mario Galaxy at nightime after Mac goes to bed. Before they play they "work out" together. Ryan is Cam's hero because of his Mario Galaxy talents. Cameron tells anyone who will listen how good his Daddy is at Mario Galaxy.

Mackenzie is changing so much too. She is done taking naps. She and Cam rest in their rooms for a little bit during the afternoons. She has a snack and a drink and watches a show. She feels like pretty big stuff staying up and doing what Cam does. Nightime is a piece of cake since the naps are gone. She is so fun to be with. She loves to help me do things around the house. This is strange for me because Cam never enjoys too much that doesn't involve a toy. She helps me unload the dishwasher and puts their cups together. She picks which color straw should go with which cup. She loves to rinse out dishes in the sink and put them in the dishwasher. She also helps put away laundry. She knows where Daddy's socks and underpants go and she just skips down the hallway to put them away she is so excited. She loves to go with me to Cam's school when I read to his class in the library. She sits cross legged in the floor with the rest of the kids and she and Cam hug eachother on and off while I read.
